"World Book and Copyright Day"

  World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated across the world on 23rd April. The aim of this celebration is to promote and recognise the benefit of reading books. The World Book Day was established by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on April 23rd 1995. This year will be the 26th edition of World Book Day.

 


   On World Book and Copyright Day UNESCO encourages you to challenge yourself to explore new topics and formats.

   Importance of this day is more relevant in the present context of COVID-19, as book reading habit may prove a powerful tool to combat with mental hazard caused due to isolation and loneliness.

Why 23rd April?

   It is observed that several great authors were either born or died on 23rd April like William Shakespeare, William ward sworth, David Halberstam, Miguel de Cervantes and Josep Pla died on 23rd April while Manuel Mejia Vallejo and Maurice Druon were born on 23rd April.

  However there are few countries like UK, Sweden and Ireland are exceptions. They celebrate World Book Day at different dates.
